McGoldrick, Sun Apr 30 2017 at 9:32 am End of 2016-2017 cross country ski season NCC announcement Published on March 31, 2017 Gatineau Park Ski Season Gatineau Park Ski Season Canada’s Capital Region—Thanks to colder than normal temperatures and recent snowfalls, the National Capital Commission is delighted to keep the winter trails open in Gatineau Park for winter outdoor enthusiasts, residents and visitors of the Capital Region. Gatineau Park was the destination of choice this winter for tens of thousands of people. Purchases of daily passes are up 82.8 percent compared with last year, with a total of 26,959 daily passes bought. More than 8,200 season passes were also purchased this winter season. Services: The NCC’s Gatineau Park team will continue grooming operations as long as the weather allows, with a reduced patrol service on weekdays. The 2016–2017 season at a glance Skiers, snowshoers and snow bikers enjoyed 109 days on the trails since the season started on December 10, 2016. Last season, the trails were open for 86 days. Close to 27,000 daily passes were purchased, an increase of 82.8 percent over last year. Season passes saw an increase of 9.5 percent over last year, with a total of 8,235 passes purchased (7,184 ski passes, and 1,051 snowshoe and snow bike passes). Visitors made more than 1,200 nightly reservations in the Park’s winter accommodations this season, representing an increase of 6.9 percent compared with last season. Winter season pass holders benefited from exclusive offers from more than 20 retailers and partners. The NCC was pleased to partner with Tourisme Outaouais for its winter campaign, which focused on our winter outdoor offer in the Park, specifically cross-country skiing. We launched an interactive ski conditions map on January 26, 2017. Spring cleanup: Spring cleaning and maintenance of the Gatineau Park parkway network will take place as soon as the snow cover disappears. Parkways: Gatineau Park’s parkways are scheduled to re-open to motorists on May 5 in the southern sector, and on May 12 for the Philippe Lake Parkway, weather permitting.
