P3 on Corkstown Road

Trails # 11 & # 12 - P3 on Corkstown Road

Trails # 11 and # 12 are located in Stony Swamp NCC Greenbelt (west-end Ottawa). The starting point is the P3 Parking Lot off Corkstown Road. ( scroll down for photos )

The Kanata Cross-country Ski Club maintains these NCC trails, and they suggest these are some of their more difficult ones in the greenbelt. These are fairly nice trails with areas which resemble parts of the Gatineau Park. Trail # 11 has a few hills and scenic spots. Most of the trail is surrounded by trees, but there are some partly open areas. It leads to trail # 12, which is a small loop and is more in a forest setting.

Unfortunately, the loop for trail # 12 is now much smaller than it used to be. In 2004 the NCC leased a good part of the area to the City for the Ottawa Municipal Camp Ground. This means the distance covered by these trails is now relatively short. Nevertheless, it's an interesting alternative for people in the west-end of the City who don't have time to travel to the Gatineau Park.
